Robert Hoffmann
Hoffmann seemed to deal with text in a more painterly way, which lead me to think about how I could use this typography brief to create a body of work that I feel more comfortable with. As I have zero experiences working with text. In this way, I could also take into account the scale in which I work. I do feel a slight connection in the anger in the way the paint is applied, anger is my main emotion when painting too.
Keith Haring
Haring is one of the most famous artists I could think of within the typo brief. His shokingly comedic work paired with the simplistic style makes him one of my favourite artists. Although he doesn't work exculsively with text, the work I'm doing with the maggots seems to fit with his style. I could use his colourwork for guidence for future work.
Chank Diesel
Diesel is a lesser known typo artist, he works with making fonts over the internet. The creativity that exudes from his work had inspired me not to think about text so plainly, and maybe take a more interesting route with the text itself. I casually came across Diesel while searching for font inspiration and it led me to look at many other amazing font desiginers.
Craig Ward
I had already been aware of Craig Ward before starting this project. Athlough his work is mostly digitized, I understand that the words can gain emphatic meaning. I am an extremely colourful person, so the thought of ony using black and white to create art makes me like his work less, but that does not take away from the great composition and subject matter Ward uses.
Bianca Severijns
Severijns works with paper and shadow to create beautifully intricate work. I thought about how I could create something more intricate to create a story with the paper, however this would be difficult to put onto a person. I admire the patience it takes to create work like this, and I'm certain if I had more time to create art similar to this, I would.
Pratt + Paper & Ralph Pucci Exhibit
I looked into this exhibit as it seemed extremely close to the task/brief I had been given. I closely examined the techniques they used, repetition, abstraction, negative space and minimalism in certain places. It inspired me to look into using more than one technique on my work, instead of sticking to the same one. Though this would depend on the scale of my final body of work.
Tomoko Fuse
Fuse works with paper folding, origami. He does use colour to his aid, which I am not able to do. But I admrie the simplicity and cleanliness in which he folds the paper. Perhaps I could involve the same level of clarity in the chains I make. I could also incorportate some intricate folding at some part to cover the loops with the headdress.
Karen Bit Vejle
Similar to Severijns, Bit Vejle uses the subtraction method to take paper away and create incredibly detailed art pieces. She was influential as I had thought about cutting into the bigger loops to create some sense of intricacy. As much as I admire her work, work like this seems common to me.
