For this first project we were instructed to pick from a series of promts to create a piece of typography.
Initially I wanted to use the promt 'the stupidest thing anyone has said to you' as I, a stupid person, know alot of stupid people who in turn say a lot of stupid things. Flicking through the large list of options I settled for 'I thought lesbians only existed in porn?' as it gives off a humorous tone and would be easy to communicate through the typography brief. I soon fell out of love with the idea as it wasn't as snappy/catchy as I had hoped for this project, I felt more connected to some of the other ideas which had one word motifs.

Settling on one of the other prompts 'what happens after you die' I chose the word 'maggots'.

Maggots eat the flesh of the corpse and aid decomposition. As I wanted to do a light and fun topic, death seemed like a natural choice.

I worked out that I wanted the word to appear to be maggots coming out of a dead body with a hole (to give depth). Also, having the letters become curvier seemed useful to make the type look unqiue, as well as embody the maggots further.

Following that I practiced the type itself and the position/look of the body, obscuring some of it with the frame.

Ultimately the goal was to create a more refined monochrome drawing of the type as the timeframe didn't allow for much else.

All the play had led to a few final experiments that were to be taken further. Another idea had popped into my head about slapping maggots, purely because I thought that sounded hilarious.

By the time I had gotten to making something more final I had ran out of time for it. (most of the time allocated had gone on research as I felt barely competent about typography, being a painter).
