We were tasked with creating a body of work surrounding the theme of 'storytelling', with a large list of ethical topics to choose from. I didn't want to do this. In an act of rebellion I started with a portrait of a friend of mine. Part way through I felt a surge of emotion about finishing the painting, as all art should be finished if the artist says it is. I say it's finished.
Conceptual art had never been a strong suit for me, however this concept developed over a period which eased me into the idea. Heavily influenced by Freud I began the painting after a series of practice sketches, which I often do to get used to the sitters face/features.

Unlike the projects before this, I created a conclusive painting to end the body of work. Chiefly for the reason that I had the time to do so. My initial idea for this painting was to do a few repetitions of the face to practice for a more 'clean' looking board or canvas. However, due to the strike of inspiration this turned into something I'm proud of. The text could have been more clean/professional looking, however with the background and the painting style it seems more at home.

The board itself is A3 in size, and has been dubbed 'do what I want'.

Perhaps it will sit in a series of similar paintings when I get the time to finish them, or they could be continued into the next project as the concepts seem to align to a degree.
